What does Auto Liability Insurance cover?
Damages you cause to someone else’s body or property with your truck.
What does Cargo Insurance cover?
Cargo insurance covers the commodities that are in or on your trailer.
What is the required limit for Cargo Insurance?
The limit of cargo you are required to carry will be determined by the brokers you are planning to haul for. Typically it is around 100,000, but it can be higher or lower depending on the commodities you are hauling as well as the brokers minimum requirements.
Why do I need Bobtail/Non Trucking Liability?
You need Bobtail/ Non-trucking liability if you are leasing on to a trucking company to run under their authority. The bobtail/ non-trucking liability covers you when you are not under dispatch hauling a load for the company you are leased on to.
What is MC Authority?
In order to legally operate as an interstate carrier, you must be granted permission by the Federal Highway Administration.
Who is required to have MC authority?
Any vehicle who will be operating for hire transportation and crossing state lines is required to have an MC authority.
What is the minimum insurance coverage that is required to obtain an MC Authority?
For Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds or more:
$750,000 (BI &PD) for General Commodities (non-hazardous)
$1 Million (BI &PD) hazardous except class A & B explosives
$5 Million (BI & PD) Class A & B explosives, Hazardous materials
transported in specified capacities in tanks or hoppers and/or any quantity of hazardous materials
as specified in 49 CFR 173.403 of the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations.
For vehicles with a Gross Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 pounds:
$300,000 (BI & PD) for general commodities except any materials listed below
$5 Million (BI & PD) Any quantity of Class A or B explosives
for any quantity of Poison Gas (Poison A)
highway route controlled quantity of radioactive materials.
Broker Authority: Brokers must maintain a surety bond or trust fund in the amount of
